Spank Films are a London production company specialising in TV commercials and digital content. Spank Films also known as Spank Corp are based in Soho and represent directors such as Steve Bendelack, Tim Brown, Karen Cunningham, FAQ, Michael Geoghegan, Alex Hardcastle, Elisabeth Hoff, Pat Holden and Malcolm Venville. The company is run by Bash Robertson and John Golley is the Executive Producer. The New Business team consists Lise McQuillin and Monica Berti. Spank’s clients include Fallon, BBH, Saatchi & Saatchi, The Brooklyn Brothers, AKQA, CoI, AMV BBDO, Publicis, Kindred and many other advertising agencies. Spank has made adverts and virals for brands such as LG, Ford, Twinning's, The British Army, William Hill, Heineken, O2, Nike and Kellogg's to name but a few.
Was instrumental in creating Spitting Image, League of Gentlemen, The Royle Family, Little Britain, and The Mighty Boosh. His latest advertising awards for his BBC3 commercial at Creative Circle, BTAA 2009, and Midsummer 2009. Other awards include Emmys and BAFTAs.
He’s won awards at D&AD, BTAA Gold & Silver, Cannes, Creative Circle and Promax Gold. Judged Creative Circle for nine consecutive years. Tim’s film career started with a short film - ‘The Moors’, which won the BAFTA Straight 8 and went on to be shortlisted at nine film festivals around the world. Nominated at Shots Evolution (Top Ten Directors) Commercial Film Directors of Europe (Short-Listed) Cannes - New Director (Short-Listed) He is also the nephew of writer and painter D.H. Lawrence.
Co-founded the Pink Film Company with Bash Robertson in 1995, which re-branded to Spank in 2008. Karen was previously a highly respected Producer, and on the announcement of her becoming a Director, was featured on the front cover of Shots Magazine. Her first film “Wonderful World”, which she wrote and directed for the Half Moon Theatre, won her a Silver at the BTAA’s as well as at Eurobest. Her next film “When I Grow Up” for BBH won Karen Best New Director at The Cannes CFP/Shots awards, as well as Best New Director at Kinsale and The Midsummer Awards. She was nominated “Top Ten New Directors” in Boards Magazine and in the Shots “New Directors to Watch”. Since then she has directed commercials for BBH, Fallon, Saatchi’s (to name but a few) and a film for Thomson Airways through BMB, which won a BTAA this year. Having originally trained as an Actress, Karen’s unique style of casting (both adult and children) shows through in the powerful performances in her work.
FAQ are Ian Cross and Stuart Hilton. They direct, design, animate, write, carve, compose, whittle, shape, build, bend, graft, toil, soil, oil, sweat, form, guide, misguide, poison and rest. Ian Cross and Stuart Hilton joined forces in the summer of 99 and have since directed commercials and idents for Guinness, Ford, BBC, Channel 4, Orange, Heineken and Twinings. FAQ have also designed titles for films including Snatch and Curse of the Golden Flower. They have also won awards such as D&AD, BTAA, Creative Circle, and Art Directors of Europe.
Has won D&AD, Promax World Class Award, Creative Circle, and shortlisted for BAFTA. Started in music videos. Has directed F16s and an aircraft carrier in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as Tony Blair, jools Holland, Kimi Raikkonen and countless others. Has constructed cranes on the top of waterfalls, built giant wooden structures in the ocean and flown in more helicopters that the President of The United States. Cycles across the Alps every year with the Fireflies for a Leukaemia charity.
Is an award winning stills photographer. Has shot Naomi Campbell, Girls Aloud, The Sugarbabes, Jamelia, Jemma Kidd, and Bob Geldof to name but a few. Her clients include Adidas, Nike, Ghost, M&S, Vogue, Tatler and Marie Claire. Shot her first commercial for Rimmel in 2008. Attempted to be the first woman to sail single-handedly across the Atlantic.
Has won the Kodak Short Film Showcase and Saatchi & Saatchi's New Director's Showcase. Has directed two feature films, the latest is called Awaydays, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2008 and got it's theatrical release last year.
A Director of TV commercials, music videos and short films. Malcolm’s feature film debut, 44 Inch Chest, was released in the UK and US in Jan 2010, to critical acclaim. From the writers of Sexy Beast, it features Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Tom Wilkinson and John Hurt. He has just completed production on his second feature film, Henry’s Crime, starring Keanu Reeves, James Caan and Vera Farmiga. With his career that began in photography, Venville has continues to craft still images and has published two books of photography. ‘Layers’ which documents his career as an art and advertising photographer, and ‘Lucha Loco’, an examination of the colorful costumes and personas of masked Mexican Wrestlers. Currently he is working on a third, this time examining the battered physicality and wounded psyche of elderly retired Mexican prostitutes. Venville has received every major honor in advertising, and highlights include Volkswagen Squares, which won the Andy Awards Grandy, two Golds at the One show, the AICP’s Overall Excellence for a single spot, Original Music, Best Agency Art Direction and Advertising Excellence for a Campaign, a Silver Clio, a Lion at Cannes, and an EMMY nomination. His recent signing to Spank reunites him with Karen Cunningham and Bash Robertson.
